(SPRINGFIELD, IL) -It‘s cruisin' time at the International Route 66 Mother Road Festival & Car Show in downtown Springfield, IL September 23 - 25. 2011. Whether you've registered your ride for the weekend festival or just plan to be a spectator, you can join the Route 66 City Nights Cruise on Friday night, September 23rd. The cruise is fun, it's free and is a great community event.
Cars will begin lining up at 5:00 pm at the parking lot of the Capital City Shopping Center at 3095 S. Dirksen Parkway. The cruise kicks off at 6:15 pm sharp, Friday, September 23rd. The cruise route is south on Dirksen Pkwy, west on Stevenson Drive and north on Sixth St right on into the festival site.
"We're so excited to honor Bill Shea as this year's Grand Marshall during the Route 66 City Nights Cruise," said Kim Rosendahl, President of the Board for the Festival. Bill is a world-renown Route 66 icon, with visitors coming from all around the world to see Shea's Gas Station Museum. We are so lucky to have him right here in Springfield. As the Festival celebrates its 10th Anniversary, we thought it was a perfect time to honor Bill."
If you're not the cruisin' kind, then pick a spot along the route and enjoy the spectacle as hundreds of cars and trucks of every size, color, vintage, make and model pass before your eyes. Or join the party downtown and welcome the cars as they enter the festival site. Either way, it's candy for the eyes - a bumper buffet, if you will.
After the cruise, boogie on over to the Hot Rod Stage at the corner of 6th and Washington as The Neverly Brothers from Chicago travel down Route 66 full of fiery energy from 7:30 pm - 10:00 pm. Their stage show gets people up and dancing (or at least tapping their toes) from start to finish!
